Tracy A. Franklin is continuing her classes and courses in traditional and creative embroidery in the Northeast at Fowlers Yard Creative Workspaces in the heart of Durham City.

The classes and courses on offer provide a mixture of subjects based on traditional techniques as well as contemporary skills. Nicola Jarvis returns too with contemporary white work.

City and Guilds Embroidery and Design
At Fowlers Yard With Julia Triston and Tracy A. Franklin

7922-08 – Embroidery and Design Certificate
Students will learn creative design techniques in fabric decoration, manipulation and construction producing five items along with a portfolio of experimental samples in both hand and machine work.

7923-012 – Embroidery and Design Diploma
Further study in both hand and machine embroidery, with students developing their own design work based on research. This will lead to producing a range of experimental samples and projects using contemporary and traditional techniques as well as studying historical and foreign embroidery.

The Course

These courses are run independently at Fowlers Yard for one day a week for two years with two experienced tutors. There will be five hours of tuition each day and you will also be expected to spend time developing your work at home.

The Fees

We are committed to deliver a high standard of teaching and are not governed by any educational establishment.
Therefore our fees are set as follows: -

Royal School of Needlework Certificated Course
At Durham with Tracy A. Franklin

This course is taught to the highest level of technique resulting in a Royal School of Needlework certificate. You will learn four modules in total including, Jacobean Crewel work, Silk shading, Canvas work and Gold work.

Each module is taught over one term or 8 days, with two terms a year, full course 2 years in total with each module £900.00, total cost of course £3,600.00. For further information, contact

Contemporary Whitework

Studio Hire At Fowlers Yard
Creative Workspaces

This idea is open to any group or individual who wish to have my tuition at my studio in Durham City. If you or a group are working on a specific project and need guidance or just want to experiment and be inspired with ideas or learn new techniques, then I am willing to offer my help and tuition.

The studio can be hired for one day, two days, or more, or over a series of days over a course of time, or even just an afternoon.

One day hire based on ten people will be £220.00, based on five people £160.00 which includes tea and coffee. If you have a group, which wants to learn one of my projects, then it will be based on £30.00 per person per day excluding materials with a minimum of 8 people.

One hour hire is £30.00 and two hours £60.00.
