This rich and historical technique incorporates many techniques traditionally used in church work embroidery. All workshops will include felt padding, gold thread couching and purl work.

One day workshop
This course will cover all the basic techniques in Gold work embroidery including gold thread couching in one set design in prepared kit form. This course is suitable for beginners who have never tried these techniques before and all students will have started each technique if not finished the kit before the end of the class.

Two day workshop
This course can be on any level from basic, intermediate or advanced and can be catered towards the group. A choice of designs will be given and the students can purchase their own choice of threads, which will be for sale in the class.

Beginners - Basic gold work is suitable for beginners. It includes basic felt and soft string padding, gold thread couching and chip work over felt, cut purl work over soft string padding and pearl purl outline.
|
|
|
Intermediate - Intermediate gold work covers everything taught in beginners gold work with more emphasis given towards building the padding of both felt and soft string. Gold thread couching incorporates different types of couching threads, as well as chip work, cut purl work and pearl purl. Other techniques are also taught such as 's-ing' a type of cut purl work and coloured couching.

Advanced - All the basic techniques are taught in this class with the addition of carpet felt padding as part of the preparation process. Other techniques used are s-ing with spangles, the use of plate, and more colour using different coloured metals such as silver and copper, which can be experimented by the individual.
