Black work is basically repeated patterns of straight stitches worked over an even weave fabric by counting each thread or hole. Black work can be shaded by using different thickness of thread or by breaking the repeat pattern. Different colours can be worked too such as red.

One day workshop
In one day a student will learn how to transfer a design onto even weave fabric and work at least three basic patterned stitches within a set design, and learn some basic shading techniques.

Two to three day workshop
Over two to three days a class will be given a choice of designs and will learn to transfer a design onto even weave fabric and choose from a list of stitch patterns to work within the design. Shading with the different thread types will also be taught as well breaking the pattern repeat.
